China's electricity supply and demand are in balance in the second half of the year, with tight supply and demand in some areas, according to a report released by the China electric power enterprise federation.

The report shows that in the first half of this year, China installed 40.74 million kw of new power generation capacity, 11.94 million kw less than in the same period last year. A total of 25.06 million kw of non-fossil energy power generating capacity was added, accounting for 61.5% of the total installed capacity. A total of 9.84 million kilowatts of new coal-fired power plants were installed, 540,000 kilowatts less than the same period last year.


Electricity generation from non-fossil energy sources grew rapidly. In the first half of this year, hydropower generation from large-scale power plants nationwide reached 513.8 billion kilowatt-hours, up 11.8% year-on-year. Nuclear power generation reached 160 billion kilowatt-hours, up 23.1 percent year-on-year. Grid-connected wind power and grid-connected solar power generated 214.5 billion KWH and 106.3 billion KWH, respectively, up 11.5% and 29.1% year on year, respectively.


The utilization hours of hydropower and solar power generation equipment increased year on year, and the problem of abandoning wind and light continued to improve.
