The Fuqing Nuclear Power Project plans to construct 6 million-kilowatt-class PWR nuclear power units. Units 1 to 4 are the second-generation improved pressurized water reactor M310, and units 5 and 6 are ACP1000 (Hualong No. 1). The comprehensive localization rate is up to 75%. The construction period of a single unit of the project is 60 months, and the six units are continuously constructed at intervals of 10 months. On November 21, 2008, Li Keqiang, member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China and Vice Premier of the State Council, announced that the project officially started construction. At present, all work of the Fuqing Nuclear Power Project is progressing well. Units 1 and 2 of the Fuqing Nuclear Power Station will be completed and put into operation in November 2013 and September 2014, respectively. The first phase of the project is completed to generate electricity, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by at least 16 million tons every year, and reduce ash and slag as well as a large amount of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide emissions from coal for thermal power generation. The six units are planned to be completed and put into operation in 2018, which can at least boost the local economy's investment of 300 billion yuan and increase the employment of 30,000 people. The continuous construction of 6 units at Fuqing Nuclear Power Station will also lay a solid foundation for the construction of nuclear power plants in China and the development of batch and scale nuclear power.
